The smaller top half of the sculpture represents a child; the larger bottom half is the mother. The child is leaning down to its mother, asking for her help.

This is a beautiful sculpture; from every angle it curves and swoops and glides. As ever, Antony's pristine finishing is extraordinary and this sculpture gleams as if lacquered.

Cobalt stone is the local Zimbabwean name given to this type of serpentine, which is typically a mixture of purple and green. It does not, as far as we know, contain any cobalt.
