Cragemia Chiwawa

Cragemia is the son of renowned ‘first-generation’ artist Edward Chiwawa. He was born in 1978 in Zimbabwe, the third-born in a family of seven.

Craig started carving stone in 1990. From 1991 to 1994, he lived in the Tengenenge sculpture community in northern Zimbabwe, and its remote location enabled him to immerse himself in creative sculpture.

In 1995 he moved to Ruwa near Harare, where world-famous Zimbabwean sculptors Henry Munyaradzi and Nicholas Mukomberanwa both have farms. He worked with Henry and his sons Mike and Lawrence, and joined them when they decided to qualify as professional pilots.

Craig trained for five years; he qualified in 2006 and now works as a freelance pilot alongside his sculpting.

Craig has continued to sculpt alongside his professional pilot career. He has travelled Europe for group exhibitions, including conducting sculpting workshops. Craig now works by and for himself.
