'Lemon Opal' Stone
The plant is basking in the sunshine.
Itayi's recent work has concentrated on wrapping his fluid organic forms around each other to create a truly three-dimensional sculpture, and this lovely flowing piece is a great example.
'Lemon Opal Stone' is the local Zimbabwean name for a translucent grass green serpentine stone. It is becoming less common as the mine is running out, which is a shame.
It is of a similar hardness to springstone (i.e. a lot harder than what is known as common opal stone, which scratches easily like soapstone). It does NOT contain opals, sorry!
