When Jonathan was a small boy, his mother would beat him to make him go to church, but he didn't want to. Now that he is a man, he realises that he should take responsibility and that she was only doing it because it was the right thing to do. This piece is a reminder of and a celebration of how important the church is to Jonathan as a person.
Jonathan was a new addition to our stable of famous artists last year and his work was very well received. It takes a lot to excite us these days, but we were very impressed with his extraordinary sculptures.
The composition is quietly self-contained and precisely sculpted and is just what you'd expect from a young artist who trained with the great Joseph Ndandarika and is already well-respected internationally.
This piece has a small line in the back and is therefore not suitable for outdoor display.
