As the ground heats up, the air starts to rise and twist into a whirlwind. It's a funnel shape, narrow at the base and widening at the top. The hole in the middle denotes the spirit, the essence of the whirlwind.

As one of Zimbabwe's best contemporary sculptors, Munyaradzi follows in the footsteps of great abstract artists of the past, such as Nicholas Mukomberanwa to whom he is distantly related.

As with all of Munyaradzi's sculptures, this piece has been sculpted from a single piece of stone. The pale green lines are veins in the stone. More photos are available on request.

Springstone is a hard variety of serpentine stone. It is suitable for outdoor display, as it is dense and impermeable.
