This painting is part of Njogu's Invisible Women series, exploring the many (mostly hidden) roles women play in life in The Gambia.

Rama is short for Ramatulai, a Gambian name.

This is a kitchen scene, with a worktop and utensils by the open window. It is the internal feminine space. However, women are always so busy as they work in the house and outside in the fields as well as shopping. They are stretched thin and are often absent.

The open doorway is also a person, symbolising that a woman is forever coming and going, she is always busy.
