A lovely example of Peter's work, executed with his customary attention to detail and perfect finishing. The elegant twist of the neck as the stork turns gives the piece its name.
Peter achieves the brushed effect of the feathers by stroking the stone with a blunt rasp (photos of the sculpture process here). The shiny parts have been sanded smooth, heated and clear wax applied, then buffed up to a shine.
Springstone is a hard variety of serpentine stone with very few flaws, and is therefore an excellent sculpture medium.
