A bird scans the skies above, to see whether the rains are coming.

This piece was created at the end of the dry season, when it felt like every living thing in Zimbabwe was holding its breath and waiting for the life-giving arrival of the rains.

'Lemon opal' stone is the local Zimbabwean name for a translucent green variety of serpentine stone. It does NOT contain opals - it's nice stone, but not that nice!

Lemon opal is not a common stone any more, as the mine is nearly finished, but Peter is friends with the owner so he manages to get his hands on a few pieces which is great because it's such a lovely material.
