A chief's head - the middle loops are eyes, above them is a big headdress, below is the mouth.

Mambo is Shona for chief.

Technically, this style of sculpting is extremely difficult to do because the springstone is very hard, and great skill is needed to avoid breakages when removing the inner stone with a punch.

Springstone is the local name for a hard variety of serpentine stone. 'Green springstone' from near Tengenenge in northern Zimbabwe is black with a green tinge. It is dense and has very few flaws, and is therefore the perfect medium for Peter's technically challenging style.
