Circles Of Life
The journey of life - the passage of growing up, becoming an adult, having children and growing old - is reflected in the shape.
Starting to the right of the circle, where the stone is relatively thin, when you are young you are small and powerless. Going anti-clockwise, the stone becomes more substantial, reflecting the vigour of adulthood. Finally, moving across the base back to the starting point, the stone becomes thinner reflecting old age. When you die, your place is taken by the following generations, tracing an endless path.
The simplicity of the work encapsulates the best of contemporary Zimbabwean sculpture, but also allows the beauty of the stone itself to come to the fore.
