There is a very pleasing swirling movement to this interesting abstract sculpture by one of our best young sculptors.
Tanyanyiwa won the Bernard Matemera Foundation 'Artist Of The Year' prize in 2009. His was judged to be the most original piece, and that Tanya was uninfluenced by others around him, which is very hard to achieve.
Cobalt stone is the local Zimbabwean name given to this type of serpentine, which is typically a mixture of purple and green. It does not, as far as we know, contain any cobalt.
