"Mother Africa | Modern Woman" - London Exhibition

Guruve held an exhibition of contemporary African art in London in March 2011, featuring paintings by:
Charles Nkomo, Njogu Touray and Godfrey Banadda and selected Shona sculpture.
The full catalogue is now online.

The exhibition was held at Frameless Gallery in Clerkenwell Green
(between Islington and the City | nearest tube: Farringdon).

Private view: Tuesday 29 March 6pm - 9pm with drinks.

Exhibition dates:

  • Sun 27 Mar 4pm until 7pm
  • Mon 28 Mar - Fri 1 Apr 11am - 7pm
  • Sat 2nd Apr 10am - 7pm

On the walls was a three-man show featuring:
Charles Nkomo from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe,
Njogu Touray from The Gambia and
Godfrey Banadda from Uganda,
with a thoughtful collection of works examining the changing role of women in modern African society.

These artists have been investigating the role and position of women in contemporary African society, so it makes great sense to bring them together and look at how different cultures on opposite sides of the continent are responding to the rapidly changing times in Africa.

No Guruve exhibition would be complete without a carefully chosen selection of Shona sculpture from Zimbabwe, so we will include some super new pieces by some of the most famous names in this famous art movement alongside leading names of the younger generation.

Sculptures on display will include work by:
