Khusile Flats
Charles Nkomo

Oil on canvas

2005

62.0cm (h)

£ 290

In the 1950s, the Khusile flats were the first buildings of over two storeys to be built in Bulawayo.

Even though the area is now quite run down, when the flats were first built they were thought very special and it was a great luxury and privilege to live there. The proud residents called them 'Morning Flats' because they were so high up, they saw the morning sun first.
