Is There Any Hope?
Charles Nkomo

Oil on canvas

2007

The water situation in Bulawayo at the end of the dry season in 2007 had become desperate. The reservoirs had run out, and water was being used as a political weapon. People were reduced to digging holes.

The blue sky in the painting represents the hope for the rainy season, predicted by many to be the wettest for years. Zimbabwe has had five years of drought.
