David Chikuzeni
David was born in Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe on the 14th of January 1966, the first born in a family of four.
He started stone sculpture in 1988. He was taught for six years by the late Albert Mamvura, who was a very strict teacher. David has adopted his very high standards. After training with Mamvura, he worked with the celebrated sculptor Sylvester Mubayi for a year. Both Albert Mamvura and Sylvester Mubayi are famous artists from the first generation of Zimbabwean sculpture.
David was featured alongside Agnes Nyanhongo and Colleen Madamombe in the group exhibition 'In Praise Of Women', which toured Oxford, London, Denmark and Sweden in 2003.
David has exhibited in a number of other exhibitions, including the Mobil Zimbabwe Heritage exhibitions in 1990, 1992 and 1996 at the National Gallery Zimbabwe (NGZ) in Harare, and the first Mobil Biennial in 1999 (also at the NGZ). Some of his works have been shown at Vhukutiwa Gallery, Mutupo Gallery and at Chapungu Village in Harare. His works were featured at the Expo 2000 in Hanover, Germany.
