Red Bream
Edmore Chijumani

Cobalt Stone

42cm (h)
68cm (w)
8cm (d)

£450

Apologies for the poor light in this photograph. The stone is deep purple with splashes of pale green and reddish pink.

Cobalt stone is the local Zimbabwean name given to this predominantly purple type of serpentine. It does not, as far as we know, contain any cobalt but it may originally have been found near a cobalt mine. Nowadays, it is mined near Chiweshe, in northern Zimbabwe.
