Garrison favours springstone, a particularly hard type of serpentine stone, as a sculpture medium. He combines different textures and finishes in the rough stone.

This elegant piece is finished with a rasp, so the surface of the face and neck is covered in small striations. Garrison's inspired use of the reddish-brown weathered surface as hair keeps us in touch with the stone's original state.
