Gregory Mutasa

Unfortunately all of Gregory's pieces have sold. If you would like us to let you know when we have new works from him, please send us an email with your contact details and we will be in touch.

Gregory was born in Rusape, north-east Zimbabwe, in 1959. He learned the basis techniques of stone carving at a craft centre in Rusape, then joined a curio exporter in Harare, where he carved representational animals and heads in verdite and ivory. Whilst the work required little imagination, it was an invaluable grounding in technique and gave Gregory a confidence with a chisel that shines through in his later work.

Gregory's younger brother Joe, already an established artist, encouraged him to change direction and become more creative. Gregory began to use his imagination; his work quickly achieved wide acclaim and his reputation grew.

Gregory Mutasa is one of the most prominent names of the second generation of Zimbabwean sculptors. His work has been featured in innumerable local and international joint and solo exhibitions. His graceful sculptures of the female form are instantly recognisable and much sought-after by collectors worldwide.
