Thinker
Ishmael Chitiyo Springstone 54cm (h) 20cm (w) 12cm (d) 13.0kg SOLD Roadsides in Zimbabwe are littered with 'airport art' - crude soapstone carvings of dancing families, lovers and thinkers. This sculpture is a very intelligent reworking of a very stale theme. The thinker rests, chin in cupped hand; the true art lies in the simplicity of Ishmael's abstract treatment. There's nothing 'roadside' about this piece! Ishmael was one of 2 runners-up in the sculpture category of the NAMA competition in 2008. This clever piece shows why the judges placed him so highly against stiff competition. |
