Ishmael Chitiyo Springstone 52cm (h) 18cm (w) 9cm (d) 12kg £250 "In our culture, we have Shona and Ndebele. Same people, but we are different." Despite Mugabe's attempts to drive a wedge between the races, most Zimbabweans are not prejudiced on the basis of skin colour. In fact, they often make very positive statements about living together and sharing the resources available. In this piece, Ishmael juxtaposes black and white but speaks of language/cultural groups within his country, both with positive connotations. Ishmael was one of 2 runners-up in the sculpture category of the NAMA competition in 2008. |
