Munyaradzi Jeche Fruit Serpentine 68cm (h) 31cm (w) 20cm (d) SOLD This is Munyaradzi's favourite piece of the selection he showed us this year. He looked at it with a face just bursting with pride. A sculpture doesn't have to be two metres tall to be good, and this piece is just stunning. Art critic Celia Winter-Irving was incredibly impressed with Munyaradzi Jeche's pieces in the Chitungwiza Arts Centre competition in September 2007. She is very influential and this 'discovery' may help Jeche's career enormously. Fruit serpentine is the local name given to this very colourful and slightly translucent type of serpentine. It needs to be well-lit to bring out all the colour and detail in the stone. This particular piece is a beautiful tawny-gold colour on the front and bottle green on the back. |
