Like arms enfolding something precious, a guardian spirit surrounds and protects a person.

The Shona culture includes ancestor worship; there is a strong belief that the living are watched over by the ancestors, that the spirits shadow them and protect them as they journey through life.

As with so much of the best work of the younger generation of Zimbabwean sculptors, less is more ... and this is a fine example of elegantly simple and uncluttered abstract sculpture.

Springstone is a hard variant of serpentine stone. It is an excellent sculpture medium, as it has a dense internal structure with very few flaws.
