Njogu Touray

Njogu is one of The Gambia's best known and most respected artists.

Touray has travelled widely as an artist. His work has been shown in joint and solo exhibitions in The Gambia, Senegal, Europe and the USA since the late 1980s.

Recent exhibitions include:
- 'Women in African Art', Sankaranka Gallery, New York, USA (2007)
- 'Colours Of Africa - Contemporary Perspectives' Oregon, USA (2002)

In 2005 he opened his own 'Tahalart' gallery with an initial exhibition of new works from 2003-2005 exploring the role of women in Gambian society.

In 2007 the President of The Gambia commissioned paintings from Njogu for his residence. In 2006, Njogu and Baboucarr Etu-Ndow were commissioned to provide the artwork for the 52 villas specially built for the African Union Summit held in The Gambia that year.
