Onias Mupumha

Fruit Serpentine

50cm (h)
65cm (w)
15cm (d)

SOLD

This sculpture is probably the best piece that we have ever seen by Onias Mupumha. Not only does it have his trademark simple fluid lines and organic feel; this piece also has the added bonus of the stone it was made from.

Fruit serpentine is the local name given to this very colourful and slightly translucent type of serpentine. This particular piece is a beautiful tawny-gold colour on the front and bottle green on the back, with a white fractal pattern deliniating where the layers meet as if they were liquid, not solid stone.

Onias didn't realise when he chose this piece of raw stone that it contained two layers. It was purely by chance that he brought out its unique character in this way. Utterly beautiful and completely irreproducible.
