Spirit of A Kudu
Peter Gwisa

Springstone

110cm (h)
47cm (w)
25cm (d)

38.5kg

SOLD

Dual ideas are expressed here: this is a germinating seed with the first leaves aiming upwards but it is also a kudu's head with magnificent twisted horns.

Peter's work is always very abstract; he excels at expressing quite complex ideas through three-dimensional space with confident use of swirling and twisting lines, smooth surfaces and negative space (i.e. removing the stone altogether).

Technically, this style of sculpture is extremely difficult to do because, although the springstone is very hard, great skill is needed to prevent breakages when removing the inner stone with a punch.

Springstone is frost-resistant and is suitable for outdoor display.
