Celebrating Golfer
Peter Gwisa

Springstone

102cm (h)
26cm (w)
21cm (d)

SOLD

Two complementary themes are expressed in this work. You may initially see the large eyes and pointy beak of an owl, and owls can symbolise good luck in Shona culture. Peter also incorporated the idea of a golfer - the twisted vertical line is the golfer (reflecting the way people turn as they follow through when teeing off) and the straight vertical line is the golf club. The golfer is celebrating a victory, hence the presence of the owl.

Springstone is frost-resistant and is suitable for outdoor display. The brown colouration comes from the oxidisation (weathering) of the iron in the serpentine before it was sculpted.
