Lean On Me
Peter Gwisa

Springstone

The strong line moving upward (back right) is the husband; the upper circle (top left) is the wife and the lower one (bottom left) the child, and they lean on the man for support.

So this is a family group, and a very clever reworking of the tired and formulaic 'dancing families' seen on the roadside in Zimbabwe and South Africa.

His ability to express how important family values are to African society in a fresh and abstract manner goes a long way to revealing why Peter Gwisa was so close to winning Best Sculptor in the prestigious 2008 NAMA (National Arts Merit Awards) competition.

Springstone is frost-resistant and is suitable for outdoor display.
