Lonely
(Mugarandoga)

Peter Gwisa

Springstone

77cm (h)
23cm (w)
16cm (d)

13.5kg

£495

This piece is on loan to an exhibition at Exbury Gardens until July.

A person sitting quietly, head resting on hand. They are lonely, but they are used to being alone. The leaf at the top has a positive message; it means that, whatever happens, there is still life and we should not take it for granted and things can always change.

Springstone is the local name for a hard variant of serpentine stone. It is a particularly good sculpture medium, as it has a very even internal structure of small grains of rock; it is dense and has very few flaws. It is the favoured medium for Zimbabwe's most famous sculptors.
