Sylvester Mubayi

Springstone

27cm (h)
49cm (w)
20cm (d)

£3,300

One person has a bowl of food, the second has a calabash of water, and the third waits with empty hands to be given something when the others have finished.

Many of Sylvester's sculptures are inspired by Shona culture and customs, and they can teach us interesting insights into how Zimbabwean society works.

Springstone is the local name for a hard variant of serpentine stone. It is the favoured medium for Zimbabwe's most famous sculptors.

Rather than our words though, why not watch Sylvester speaking about his sculpture...
