Tonderai Sowa

Sculptor

Moving upwards from the base, the sculpture splits into two uprights which represent the bride and groom. The extra movement at the top of the sculpture shows them dancing together. They are taking their first dance together at the wedding reception.

Tonderai is one of Guruve’s most popular artists, and it’s easy to see why. It is almost inconceivable that such delicate and intricate work could be created by hand from a single piece of stone; yet, for all its complexity, the lines are light and clean and uncluttered.

Springstone is the local name for a hard variety of serpentine stone. It is suitable for outdoor display, as it is dense and impermeable and has very few flaws that might be exacerbated by frost action. All colouration and texture within the stone is entirely natural, merely enhanced by the application of a coat of clear wax.
