The two swirling circles are the eyes of an owl, they are big and wide open, looking for prey. So the size and shape of the whole sculpture is intended to echo the fluffy roundness of an owl on its perch, and the central movement in the stone indicates the eyes (and, by extension, its head) observing.

Tonderai has established a reputation for astonishingly delicate and intricate work that is also very clean and simple. This is a fantastic medium-sized sculpture, great for a central interior position, with interest from every angle.

Springstone is the local name for a hard variety of serpentine stone. It is a particularly good sculpture medium, as it has a very even internal structure of small grains of rock; it is dense and has very few flaws. It is the favoured medium for Zimbabwe’s most famous sculptors.
