Antony Masamba

Antony Masamba was born in 1973 in Makoni, Zimbabwe. In 1991 he left school as he did not have the money to pay his O-Level fees. The following year, he became an apprentice to one of the most famous artists, the late Albert Mamvura, helping to sand and polish his sculptures.

After five years, Antony began to sculpt by and for himself and is now an extremely talented and promising young artist. At the same time, he is a member of an interesting and competitive new generation of sculptors. Although greatly impressed by the work of older artists, he has fought hard to establish his own style and this has paved the way for his success.

Antony’s work was included in the Het Slot Heist exhibition in The Netherlands, jointly organised by Gallery Sonda and Chapungu in 2001. His works have been also exhibited in galleries in Germany, Britain, America and Canada amongst others.

Antony Masamba is one of the most abstract sculptors that Guruve promotes. His work is outstanding, not just in his creativity and technical ability, but also in his attention to detail. All his pieces are perfectly finished and beautifully polished so that they are wonderful to touch as well as to view.

There are more super sculptures by Antony Masamba available through our other company, the Shona Sculpture Gallery in Harare, Zimbabwe. Click on the link to see Shona Sculpture Gallery’s Masamba pieces.
