Arthur Fata

Arthur Fata was born in 1963 in Harare, Zimbabwe. He went to various high schools, before finding the BAT Workshop School run from the basement of the National Gallery of Salisbury by the first curator, the hugely influential Frank McEwen. (Click here for more background on Shona art history).

While at the National Gallery, Arthur won numerous awards, including:

  • Corps of Diplomats Award (1983)
  • Award Of Distinction, NGZ (1984)

He was awarded a scholarship to study art in Europe. In 1986, he joined the Nicholai Pavlovich Institute of Higher Education in Sofia, Bulgaria (Masters Degree in Fine Arts). After completing his education in 1993, he toured Europe and worked as an artist in several European countries.
