Moulaye Sarr is an outstanding painter from the younger generation of Gambian artists.
Moulaye started drawing cartoons and sketches while he was still at primary school. His artistic talent lead him to mix with artists both locally and in neighbouring Senegal. He spent seven years in Senegal as a young man, and practised art and trained informally with professional artists while he was there.
Moulaye works in a variety of media, although most of his works are two-dimensional abstract forms in acrylic on canvas. He is also a talented portrait painter, plus working in pencil, charcoal and using sand. From time to time, he also experiments with textiles design and other media.
Oct-Dec 2003 Joint exhibition with another promising young Gambian artist, Papa Alassane Guey, at The Village Gallery, Kololi, The Gambia. Moulaye’s work is also on permanent exhibition at various hotels in The Gambia.
