This sculpture is being offered for sale on behalf of a private collector.

The Kore Kore are the northern Shona people of northern Zimbabwe, a sub-tribe whose distinctiveness has faded with modernisation.

This lovely example of Bernard’s work was purchased by the current owner from a reputable gallery in the UK, which had bought it directly from the artist. The original gallery receipts have been mislaid, unfortunately, but we are satisfied this is an original Matemera.

It is in excellent condition, having been recently professionally restored by Guruve.

The piece is signed on the base.

Guruve are delighted to be able to show a genuine work by Bernard Matemera, whose pieces are (sadly) subject to copying.

We only show works we are convinced are genuine. We strongly advise collectors to acquire proper provenance for their pieces wherever possible (although clearly here it is not to be), such as a photo of the artist with the piece or original gallery documentation dating back to the original purchase from the artist, and to archive them for posterity as it greatly adds to the value and saleability of an artwork.

The stone is quite soft and we would not recommend this piece be displayed outdoors.

It is located in the UK and will be shipped from there; P&P at buyer’s expense.
