Boira Mteki

Sculptor

This piece is being sold on behalf of a private collector, who purchased it in an auction in America.

The piece was originally brought to America as part of an exhibition of Shona sculpture entitled ‘Master Sculptors Of Zimbabwe’ at Mantagaris Gallery in San Francisco. The group exhibition also included works by Henry Munyaradzi, Sylvester Mubayi, Joseph Ndandarika, Moses Masaya, Claud Nyanhongo and Boira’s younger brother Richard Mteki, so it was in good company!

The sculpture is accompanied by the original purchase receipt and exhibition flyer from 1990. Detailed provenance gives the collector great piece of mind when investing in major artworks, and this piece is well supported.

The grey limestone used was Boira’s favourite medium and adds to the authenticity of the piece. Boira’s signature can clearly be seen, etched deeply into the back.

The piece is now in the UK and will be shipped from there; P&P at buyer’s expense.
