Portrait photo of second generation Shona sculptor Brighton Sango of Guruve, Zimbabwe

Brighton Sango

This distinctive sculpture of a pair of fighting eagles is a fantastic example of Brighton Sango‘s work.

It is being advertised for sale on behalf of a private collector. It’s an excellent opportunity for keen collectors of his ground-breaking and highly respected work.

This piece was originally bought directly from Brighton in 1989 by the respected Matombo Gallery of Harare, Zimbabwe. Brighton is one of the most sought-after names of the so-called ‘second generation’ of artists of the Shona sculpture movement.

Matombo exported it to the UK for exhibition and sale at the London Art Fair in March 1990. There, it was reserved by a private collector and finally sold to them in March 1993. It has remained with this private collector until now, when it is being offered for sale through Guruve.

The sculpture is in immaculate condition. Full Matombo paperwork accompanies the piece, along with scanned images of Matombo’s original stock photograph. Detailed provenance gives the collector great peace of mind when investing in major artworks, and this lovely piece is well supported.

This piece is in the UK and will be shipped from there;
P&P at buyer’s expense.
