This sculpture is being offered for sale on behalf of a private collector.
A large head with geometric patterns on one face, echoing tribal scarifications and traditional hut decorations, this is a very striking example of Bernard Takawira‘s work, one of the great names in the history of Zimbabwean sculpture.
Pieces by Bernard do not come onto the secondary market very often, so this is a very special opportunity for a collector to own a piece of African art history.
The seller acquired this piece at auction in the UK and any supporting documents from the original owner have been lost; Guruve have seen the piece and we are totally convinced the work is genuine.
It is in excellent condition as it has recently been professionally restored by Guruve. The piece is signed on the base.
It is located in the UK and will be shipped from there; P&P at buyer’s expense.
