Guruve is advertising this lovely Bernard Takawira sculpture for sale on behalf of a private collector.

The current owner acquired this piece when he was working in Zimbabwe in the period 1983-1986. He and his wife bought the piece from the National Gallery in Harare. A senior member of staff at NGZ recently authenticated this sculpture as being a genuine work by Bernard Takawira, since the original paperwork has been mislaid and the piece is not signed. The seller can provide copies of the authentication emails.

This piece has been cherished and is in excellent condition for its age. The wax finish shows slight fading, which can be restored. However, it may be that a collector would prefer to keep the original ‘look’ of the piece, which is around 35 years old now!

Bernard Takawira was a great name in early Shona sculpture. Pieces by Bernard do not come onto the secondary market very often, so this is a very special opportunity for a collector to acquire a piece of African art history.

This piece is in Sweden and will be shipped from there; P&P is at buyer’s expense.
