A stunning fluid and complex sculpture, inspired by the fierce protective love of a mother for her child.
The mother is represented by the line of stone that comes up the back of the sculpture, and the loops at the top. The central loop, facing you in the main image, is the child. The parent’s arms are spread above the child, shielding the child from harm.
This unique artwork would be a perfect garden centrepiece. However, it’s a very versatile size, so it easily be a statement piece in an interior space.
Amazingly, Charles has sculpted it from a single solid piece of raw stone.
Springstone is a hard variety of serpentine stone. It is dense and impermeable and has very few flaws that might be exacerbated by frost action. Therefore, it is suitable for outdoor display even in colder climates.
This variety, with a speckling of paler stone crystals, comes from the Impinge pass through the Great Dyke in northern Zimbabwe. It doesn’t shine to quite such a high gloss as some other types of springstone. All the veins and subtle colouration are entirely natural.
