In this piece, two people are newly in love and they are supporting each other. One person has problems in their life (shown by the twisting line); luckily, the other one has no such problems. So the person who is struggling gets help from their loving partner.
Charles creates pleasingly simple uncluttered and very striking sculptures, and this is a super example of his work.
This hard variety of serpentine stone has been named ‘avocado’ after its green and yellow colouration. However, this particular piece of stone is a very dark green, almost black, so the colours are much more subtle. Hints of swirls of a lighter green show it is different to springstone (usually entirely black).
Of course, Charles’ lovely finishing ensures it shines like glass and brings out the subtle beauty of the stone.
TIP display it in good light with a pale background to ensure the colour in the stone can be seen to best effect.
