This lovely sculpture seems to bubble with energy; the loops at the top show the gifted child growing and revealing their talents in different areas. We can just imagine the proud parents watching on, delighting in seeing their child blossom, and thinking of the possibilities their future holds.
This is a one-off sculpture, signed by the artist. As with all his pieces, Charles has sculpted it from a single piece of stone.
Springstone is a hard variety of serpentine stone. It is dense and uniform; as a result, it is perfect for sculpting. Especially so for pieces such as this, where the artist removes much of the stone to create ‘negative space’.
The brown and green lines are veins in the stone – they are entirely natural and are not flaws.
