This person has a blanket wrapped tightly around them to keep out the rain and the wind.
This is a lovely Edward Chiwawa sculpture, pleasing in its simplicity. It has his trademark double-ringed eyes and sharply-edged nose and fingers.
This would make a great entry-level piece for a budding collector. Edward is one of Zimbabwe’s few remaining ‘first-generation’ sculptors from the Shona sculpture movement.
Edward has signed it on the base.
This hard variety of serpentine stone is known as ‘avocado’ after its striking green and yellow colouration. The colours in the stone are entirely natural, enhanced by a coat of clear wax at the end of the sculpting process.
Please note there is a superficial line in the stone on the back of the head, which is visible in the last photo. However, it will not deteriorate provided the piece is kept indoors.
