“A mother always makes her children feel safe and loved. No matter whether they are good or bad, she holds them close so they feel loved and protected.”

This is a really charming little sculpture, with the mother and her two children encased within a rounded shape, almost like seeds in a seedpod.

A quintessential example of Chiwawa’s work, with the trademark double-ringed eyes, curving brow and sharply-edged noses. There is a very pleasing balance and symmetry to this piece, and an appealing theme.

Edward is one of Zimbabwe’s few remaining ‘first-generation’ sculptors from the Shona sculpture art movement. Therefore, a lovely little Chiwawa sculpture such as this is a great entry-level collector’s piece. It represents a super opportunity to own an original and unique work of art at a very affordable price. Alternatively, it would also make a stunning gift.

Springstone is a hard variety of serpentine stone. It is a perfect sculpture medium because of its uniform internal structure; it is dense, with small grains and with very few flaws.
