The elephant flaps its huge ears like wings, ready to fly.
This quirky, almost cartoonish, representation of an elephant is typical of Ephraim’s work. He is one of the last living ‘first generation’ artists from Zimbabwe’s Shona sculpture movement.
Ephraim has signed it on the base (under its feet).
Additionally, we provide a wealth of supporting literature with every Guruve sculpture. This includes a certificate of authenticity and Ephraim’s biography, including a photo of him with this very piece.
Springstone is the local name for a hard variety of serpentine stone. It is a favoured medium for Zimbabwe’s top sculptors, as it is very hard and durable with few flaws.
