This sculpture is being offered for sale on behalf of a private collector. It is located in the USA and will be shipped from there; P&P at buyer’s expense.
The current owner’s family acquired this quintessential example of Fanizani’s work in 1988 from Gallery Shona (which later became Chapungu Sculpture Village). They visited Zimbabwe in 1988 to acquire pieces for their gallery in New York, which was called the Hayden Gallery. The current owner has various items of paperwork relating to this buying trip, including an invoice from Gallery Shona which includes ‘Whistling Head’. A copy will be provided to the buyer.
This piece is Hayden Gallery’s reference number 69. The original Hayden Gallery catalogue photo of Whistling Head accompanies the piece.
It is in very good condition, as the current owner has recently done a super restoration.
The piece is signed on the base. Dimensions in inches 15” x 8” x 10” and weight 76lb.
Please note the stone is a dark brown; variable light in the photography may make it appear darker than it actually is.
