This lovely example of Henry Munyaradzi‘s work is being advertised for sale on behalf of a private collector.
The respected Matombo Gallery of Harare, Zimbabwe bought this piece in 1990, directly from Henry, who is the most sought-after name of the Shona sculpture movement.
Matombo exported it to the USA for Henry Munyaradzi’s solo exhibition at Nicole Gallery in Chicago in January 1991. It remained there until 2011, when it was bought by a private collector and brought to the UK.
This sculpture is in immaculate condition. It is signed on the base. Full Matombo paperwork accompanies the piece, and an original photograph of the piece on display at a Matombo exhibition. There is also a photo of Henry with the piece, taken at the Nicole Gallery exhibition.
Detailed provenance gives the collector great piece of mind when investing in major artworks, and this piece is well supported.
Beware of less scrupulous people than ourselves selling non-authentic ‘Henrys’ – if the piece or the price looks to good to be true, there’s probably a reason for it.
This piece is in the UK and will be shipped from there; P&P is at buyer’s expense.
