Master first-generation Zimbabwean sculptor Henry Munyaradzi, the most sought-after name in the Shona sculpture movement

Henry Munyaradzi

Sculptor

This charming little sculpture is being sold through Guruve’s online gallery by a third party collector.

It is in very good condition and is signed on the base.

Sadly, during its long life, Henry’s title and any original documentation have become separated from the piece. We’re using the title we gave the piece when the current owner purchased the piece through Guruve in 2019.

The precision of the details of the face and the style of the signature make us certain that this is an authentic work by this most sought-after Zimbabwean sculptor. In addition, the lovely deep red serpentine stone is another clue – the mine was used mainly during the 1980s but then fell out of favour. As a result, we can give this sculpture an approximate date of 1985.

We will provide a Guruve certificate of authenticity to accompany the piece. Absence of more detailed provenance is reflected in the asking price. This is a great entry-level piece for the budding Shona sculpture collector.
