This intriguing sculpture is being sold through Guruve’s online gallery by a third party collector.
It was originally purchased by the current owner from the Janet Fleischer Gallery in Philadelphia, USA in 1990.
The piece originally came from Tengenenge, where Henry worked for so many years, in 1981.
The seller has their original purchase documentation, along with a very detailed statement from the Janet Fleischer Gallery that sets out the exact history of this piece, so there is no doubt that this is an authentic work by Henry Munyaradzi. Henry is one of the most sought-after names of the Shona sculpture movement, and this is a great example of his very appealing work.
The original title of the piece has been lost, so we are using the title ascribed to the sculpture by its current owner.
The piece has been cherished by the seller, who kept it safely in storage for some years. It is in good overall condition, though the original wax finish has faded somewhat, commensurate with its age. It is signed on the base.
This sculpture is currently in the USA and will be shipped from there. P&P at buyer’s expense.
