A lovely little water beetle by Henry Munyaradzi, with his trademark angular face and perfectly round eyes.
This piece is being sold through Guruve by a collector, who bought it in 1992 when he was working in Zimbabwe, directly from the artist himself.
It’s a great opportunity to own a piece by Zimbabwe’s most famous and collectable ‘first-generation’ sculptor from the Shona sculpture movement.
Henry has signed this piece on the base. The seller has a photo of Henry with the piece, taken on Henry’s farm in Ruwa, which is superb provenance to accompany the piece. There’s no better proof of authenticity than that!
Beware of less scrupulous galleries than ourselves selling non-authentic ‘Henrys’.
Tengenenge serpentine, from a mine near the sculpture community, has a more crystalline internal structure than other serpentines, but from the point of view of sculpting, it is similarly durable.
This piece is in the UK and will be shipped from there;
P&P at buyer’s expense.
